This is a heritage hotel located just a few steps away from the Mall and the markets. The building looks majestic and the architecture typical of that found in the colonial era. The check-in was fast and easy. Our rooms were located in an adjacent building. There is no elevator in the building. If you are a senior citizen, you would prefer to have a room on the ground floor. The rooms were spacious and clean but appeared dated. The bathroom fixtures also appeared dated. The view from the windows was disappointingly monotonous. The large windows did not have a mesh; if you keep the panes open, you would be inviting insects and mosquitoes inside the room. There was a room heater but no A/C. So, it becomes a problem on warmer days. There was no desk provided in the room for working on the laptop. The restaurant, which is in the same building as the reception, offered a good spread for the breakfast but poha, one of the items provided, was stale. For dinner, we ordered room service. This took ages to arrive; we had placed the order at 6 15 pm for delivery at 8 15. It finally arrived at 8 40 after much anguish and a bit of shouting. The servings were large and the quality was acceptable. The wifi in the rooms was just pathetic. The reception staff had some silly excuse, such as bad weather or cloud cover or something like that. Overall, it was a comfortable stay but you would expect something better from an Elgin hotel.

We, as a family of 3 including our 4 year old son, stayed in this hotel between 13th to 15th April'24. We were allocated in Tenzing Norgay wing at first floor, in one of the deluxe rooms. The hotel attracted as as it was originally of Coochbehar Maharaja's summer holiday house but what this hotel left on us is the perfection of cleanliness, service speed, mannered and learned reception, waiters and a very fulfilling experience. If the traffic outside brothers you, coming back to the hotel will offer complete solace. Location is perfect - a few steps away from the mall. Food was great (specially the egg pakodas). Hotel decor is marvellous but how well and near they have maintained it, that's an achievement. Evening high tea is recommended.

My 5 stars to this hotel. States there as a family with our 4 year old son. Very convenient location and great ambience inside the premise. We stayed at the building named after Tenzing Norgay. Our room was in the 1st floor. We could not have asked for a better view of Darjeeling. Everything was in immaculate condition. The room, the washroom, the corridors, the staircase and the sitting lounge next to the reception were clean and well maintained. The outdoor sitting area has a nice swing with a good view of the town, which my family enjoyed. I enjoyed the whiskey at the sitting area next to the reception. The hotel has tastefully decorated the walls with photos from yesteryear. The service of all the staff was excellent. Right from the front desk reception and waiters at the restaurant and the tea lounge sitting area to the housekeeping, room service and laundry service everyone was attentive to our needs. There is no lift but it was not a requirement for us. We are told the hotel used to be the summer palace of the Maharaja of Coochbehar and the ambience and experience bears testimony to the claim. Wish the entire team at Elgin Darjeeling all the best for the future. Regards Sayan

We stayed at the Elgin, Darjeeling for 3 nights. We had a premium room, at the lower level, in the Tenzing building. The hotel had already told us there isn't a good view from the room; it had 1 window facing a road. The hotel is in a good location; about 5 min walk from the central touristy location (char rasta). But walking on roads in Darjeeling is a pain, because the roads are narrow and there is constant traffic. The hotel reception staff were helpful, first with the booking and during our stay (checkin, checkout, etc.). There are 2 buildings where the rooms are located; it is better to get a room in the same building as the reception since it has better access to the sitting area, restaurant and bar. We were in the Tenzing building, which is a short walk away, which can be a bit of an inconvenience if it is cold or raining. The room was pretty spacious, with a bed (it was 2 small beds joined together and there are 2 twin mattresses with a small gap), 2 chairs, small table, TV. The bed was definitely not up to the mark: the mattresses were soft, bedsheet was too small so it would come off from under the mattress, the comforter was old & worn out without a proper cover. There was no central heating; there was a room heater which takes time to heat the room. There is no desk. This is an old hotel, with its charm, etc. but that also means that there are some small inconveniences. The bathroom was refurbished, so there was a geyser which provided hot water, a bath tub and a stall shower. There were some basic supplies like soap, sewing ket, dental kit - no shaving kit, limited towels. There is a small closet inside the bathroom with a small storage. Housekeeping doesn't do a thorough job; there was dirt in several places, including on the mirror in the bathroom. On our first day, there was no tea/coffee in the room; they provided it after we called. We ordered room service once, and it was fast. We had breakfast at the restaurant every day; breakfast is basic but good - juices, cereals, baked items, eggs, some Indian items like poha, idli, etc. We had dinner once and it was a big disappointment - the parathas were hard like papads. They also told us that dinner had to be pre-ordered before 7:30pm, but didn't tell us they have a buffet dinner. It was hard to understand the pricing, some common items were very expensive, and some other items like Indian curries were cheap. Overall, the room was functional, most of the staff was helpful and nice. We stayed at Mayfair during our previous trip and that was better (in the same price range).

We had a three-day stay in March 24. The old heritage property has it's own charm. It's a beautiful property, very well maintained with proper amenities. The food is very good and the staffs are efficient, and cooperative. The rooms are comfortable. The sit out area with a beautiful view of the valley and the lounge further add to the pleasure. Even the spa is also very good. Yes, there's no lift. But except for the very old, it should not be a problem. We will look forward to come back here sometimes later.
